| This large two acre garden is on a private estate and is owned by a couple who have just retired. It includes a grand avenue of old lime trees and a large number of mature conifers and other trees and large shrubs. The site is in a heavily wooded area and is quite shady. The house was built in the 1920s and has quite a formal style, which contrasts with its woodland location. |  | My design uses the "clearing in the woods" theme, integrating this with formality around the house. The design is centred on an open lawn and focuses on an old sweet chestnut tree beyond. The pool is set in a room with a serpentine wall for growing fruit trees. A scented winter garden is next to the house and a natural pond is set in a damp spot in the garden. |
