Oxford town garden

This garden belonged to a couple who had recently renovated their terraced townhouse.  The 5m by 15m east-facing garden needed to be updated to sit more comfortably with the modern style of the house interior and to add further value to the property.

My design focussed on two good sized seating areas linked by a walkway, crossing a sunken pond.  The terrace near the house used the same stone as in the adjacent kitchen and was given privacy by high planting. The area at the end was screened off by a modern wall with slots cut through.

Planting was mostly sculptural using repeat planting to give a feeling of space.  The side and end walls were rendered white to enhance the feeling of space and light.

JamesStPersp.jpg  The owners wanted areas for entertaining and to be able to work from home in the garden. They wanted a peaceful sanctuary and wanted to keep the old apple tree at the end for a sense of history.   JamesStPlan2.jpg
