Village garden

This half acre south-facing village garden was owned by a  young, professional couple with four children and various pets.  The house was a 17th century farmhouse recently renovated and extended and given a new drive, tennis court and guest annexe for a relative.

My design created an extensive area of terracing near the house, linking to an oval pool and garden area to the rear of the annexe.

The aim was to integrate the whole space whilst drawing you down through it.  A play area was tucked away behind trees and greater privacy from neighbours was also provided.

The client wanted to be able to entertain several other families comfortably in the summer and to provide the children with a sheltered area for safe play.

They wanted a swimming pool and a separate garden for the guest annexe and wanted the regularly used tennis court to be well screened off from the house.

An orchard was used to screen the tennis court and a wildflower meadow used as a visual link to the surrounding farmland.  Mediterranean planting was used extensively around the terraces to take full advantage of the south facing site.
